Tom DeLay goes on reality TV.
I sigh in the general direction of this country. |
I don't get it.
Did they know everything? If so, what's their game?
Or are they just incompetent and didn't thoroughly investigate the candidate? Ever heard of Google?
I don't get it. And they make me paranoid. |
Only a few hours until my Shellfish Cookery class tonight.
And I've already called around to prepare for my holiday weekend. This Labor Day weekend I plan on laboring. I'm going to try making a broth:

Like the good Asian daughter that I am, I do understand the importance of learning my scales before I start studying a sonata.
Ranch 99 - the Asian supermarket - carries oxtail and pork bones (and I might pick up more mooncakes while I'm there). And I just talked to the friendly folk over at Jim's Fallbrook Market which got excellent ratings for their butcher shop. Plenty of veal bones, he said. |
One would actually have to have a career in order to change it.
But I'm on a sort of low simmer right now with regards to food. My adoration of Ramsay and Bourdain has inspired me to try a new recipe every weekend. Trout rillettes turned out nicely and makes a great lunch snack. Jamie Oliver's laksa soup was VERY tasty, but I wonder how authentic it is? Fish tagine with chermoula uses one of my favorite herbs: cilantro.
I'm planning to try out Ming Tsai's meat broth recipe this weekend. Part of the adventure is finding butchers and ordering up oxtail, veal bones, and pork bones. Carnivorous goodness.
I've also signed on to shellfish cooking class this Friday. The menu includes "Deep Fried Oysters - Octopus Paella (Korean Style) - Moules Marinieres de Provence (Steamed Mussels in a White Wine and Lemon Parsley Sauce) - Bouillabaisse – Bacon-Wrapped Butterfly Shrimp with Homemade Pesto." |
I shrug in its general direction. Fun pilot in Season 1. I love Joe Morton. But beyond that, this show ain't no BUFFY.
It doesn't help that we powered through Season 5 of THE WIRE before coming back to Season 2 of Eureka on DVD and the latter really doesn't compare.
Unless someone tells me that the show gets overwhelmingly better and begins to think beyond the quirky "Monster of the Week" format to pull in a compelling throughline, I'm taking the show off my Netflix. |
| » I'm covered in BEEEEES! |
Ever since I discovered the swarm of bees making a home of the crevice in the wall between the house and the porch, I have had that sentence rolling around my head.
I'm covered in BEEEES!
Ah, the joys of home-ownership. I have to get rid of the bees because their honeycombs are dripping into my wall and all sorts of bad stuff can happen from that point.

He makes me cry. Seriously.
The last couple of days I've had various bits of Dr. Horrible songs going through my head. Morning before work, making coffee, finds my brain humming "A MAAAAN'S got ta do what a MAAAAAAN'S got to do." As I was cleaning this afternoon, I had "Bad Horse, Bad Horse" going through my head.
My god, I wish I was a zombie so I could eat Joss's brain.

Ask me after opening weekend's box office.
Seriously, the film is fun. And you can heap all sorts of blame on me for it. Bring it.

| » The Fog of Wedding |
So I'm engaged, and I found myself at my parents' place in Phoenix for Thanksgiving, my fiance asleep on the air-mattress in the living room. He, my mom, and I had just come back from the mall where we happened on this interesting artisan store which was different from all the other jewelry counters we'd seen that evening. In it, there was this large teddy-bear of a German man who showed us all sorts of wonderful artisan rings. Unfortunately, both the boy and I fell in love with this one:
Weissenstein ring
We hadn't actually walked in with an idea of how much we wanted to spend. We had just been browsing for styles and metals that worked for us. When we saw $2,000, we had a tacit understanding that we needed to sit down and talk about how much we wanted to spend. And 2K was WAY above our threshold.
But I LOVED that ring. I spent all night on my parent's computer searching for rings that might be similar. I became obsessed with artsy type rings. And before I knew it, it was 1:30am and I had just experienced my first Fog of Wedding.
The second happened the other day at work when I got lost in researching eco-friendly wedding invitations. Is it cheesy to do an Evite?
