Beat it!

This weekend, I was away from most media, but I just learned that the man London police shot in the subway last week was BRAZILIAN.

"How could they have done such a thing as to kill him from behind?" Mr. Alves told the Globo Television Network. "How could they have confused and killed a light-skinned person who had no resemblance at all to an Asian?"

All you people who over-produce melanin better watch out. Or, better yet, take a page from Michael Jackson's book. (Not the alleged NAMBLA page, the cosmetic bleaching page.)

So it would have been okay if he'd looked Asian? What skin tone does he think would have justfied this murder?

I understand he's upset and probably wasn't thinking but what a stupid ass thing to say.

How many innocent people do the police have to kill before they become more culpable than the terrorists?

*stomp stomp*

In the office pool, I put a fiver on 23. 23 more people to be shot by the police before they become more culpable. Only 22 to be shot before police become *just* as culpable.

(Ahhh, when is it time for Grace not to make jokes in bad taste? NEVER.)

Even more scary. I thought the Brits were being all unflappable about the bombings.

That's what our media is saying. "Stoic" Brits. I heard a critique that was interesting re: transit bombings in Spain last year. The media was expounding on the Spanish "lust for life" as they recovered from those terrorist attacks. But when Spain pulled out of the coalition of the willing, the media started characterizing Spain as "hot-blooded" and "hot-headed" Latins.

Well, where I got the idea about how the British were taking it was from a lot of blog and journal entries with various people's responses; I'm in pretty heavy media avoidance these days. I look on alternet and a few other places, but that's it. I get too depressed and angry otherwise, to the point of not being able to function.
